Jon Douglas Carlson, Ed.D., Psy.D., was an Adlerian Psychology Distinguished Professor, educator-scholar, psychologist, athlete, husband, and father.
On November 2, 1945, Jon Douglas Carlson was born in Elgin, Illinois. Jon was a proud, active father of five children who had been married to the love of his life for 50 years. He was a prolific scholar, educator, college professor, psychologist, competitive athlete, and community champion. In 1971, he received his first doctorate, an Ed.D. in Counseling and Guidance from Wayne State University, and in 1990, he received his second doctorate, a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adler University (previously the Adler School of Professional Psychology).
Jon was a Fellow and Distinguished Psychologist of the American Psychological Association (APA); a Lifetime Contribution awardee of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP); and an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), American Orthopsychiatric Association, International Academy of Family Psychology (IAFP), and Wisconsin Psychology Association (WPA). He garnered multiple accolades for his professional work and held national and state leadership roles in counseling and psychology.

He is the author and editor of many publications, most notably Brief Psychotherapies: Principles and Practices, Therapist Stories of Inspiration, Passion, and Renewal: What Does Love Have to Do With It?, and Capturing the Moment: Single Session Therapy and Walk-In Services (with M. Talmon). He is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and has been named a Continuing Education Distinguished Speaker by the American Psychological Association and the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, a Contributor of Note by the Milton H. KENNETH HARDY, PhD, is a Professor of Family Therapy at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Director of the Eikenberg Institute for Relationships in New York City, where he has a private practice specialized in dealing with children, families, and trauma. The work of Dr. Hardy has been on the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC’s 20/20, Dateline NBC, and PBS. He frequently speaks at conferences devoted to better understanding the needs of traumatized adolescents and their families. He has authored many books in the industry, including Teens Who Hurt: Clinical Interventions for Breaking the Cycle of Youth Violence and Minorities and Family Therapy.

JEFFREY KOTTLER, PhD, is the author of more than 80 works, including a dozen manuals for counsellors and therapists used in universities all over the world, as well as numerous classics for professional therapists and educators. On Being a Therapist, The Client Who Changed Me, Divine Madness, Changing People’s Lives While Transforming Your Own, and, more recently, The Assassin and the Therapist: An Exploration of Truth in Psychotherapy and in Life and Creative Breakthroughs in Therapy: Tales of Transformation and Astonishment are among his most acclaimed works. Dr. Kottler has held Fulbright Scholar and Senior Lecturer positions in Peru, Thailand, and Iceland, as well as Visiting Professor positions in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Nepal. Jeffrey is presently a Counseling Professor at California State University, Fullerton.
